When the "tail fin" 220 Sb, 220 SEb and 300 SE sedans were replaced by a newly designed model generation in August 1965, the coupe and cabriolet variants remained in the sales program. The exclusive models, which had been in production for four years, did not appear at all outdated even next to the new-generation sedans, so that there was no need for an expensive stylistic overhaul or even new development of the small-series variants. However, some of the innovations that had been introduced on the new sedans now also benefited the coupés and cabriolets. The two 2.2-liter models received the 150-hp 2.5-liter engine of the 250 SE and thus also the corresponding type designation. In addition, like the 3.0-liter models, they were fitted with the 14-inch wheels and larger disc brakes of the 108 series. Another new feature was the hydropneumatic compensating spring on the rear axle, which was fitted to the 2.5-liter models in place of the previous coil spring and kept the level of the body constant regardless of the load.

Only 954 of these exclusive convertibles were built. A great rarity that makes many a collector's heart beat faster.
heart beat faster. When this elegant Mercedes-Benz 250SE Cabriolet was completed in the summer of 1967, it was unrivaled in chic and charisma. A white convertible, with red leather, impressively reflected the spirit of the times. This was exactly how a successful entrepreneur from the picturesque district of Kronach in Franconia had ordered the car. He loved sporty, elegant vehicles and also saw it as a kind of reward for all the hard work without which success usually does not come. Years later, the convertible found a new home in the USA. There, fancy luxury cars of solid German production were in particularly high demand. This car found its home in March 2003 with a German-born enthusiast in Chalk Hill, a small rural community in Pennsylvania/USA, as can be seen from the old American vehicle paperwork. In the meantime, the car was over 36 years old and had not been spared the "ravages the "ravages of time". A Dutch vehicle scout discovered the car, which despite its age was in respectable condition and respectable condition and brought it to Germany. One of the most renowned collectors in Germany had taken a liking to the convertible and bought it. Following his constant quest for quality and perfection, he had the car stripped down to bodyshell. With enormous effort, the car was rebuilt piece by piece. The result is unique. When you look at the convertible today, you automatically think back to the old movies, in which the so popular movie actor Heinz Rühmann, in the role of the head doctor, drives such a convertible. Make yourself a picture of the elegant convertible, you will be thrilled.
